Gallasneed Weaver Scholarship

 

This scholarship was developed in honor of the late MOWA Choctaw tribal leader Gallasneed Weaver.  His many years of service have left a lasting legacy in Indian Country.  This scholarship is funded by the Gallasneed Weaver family and many dedicated individuals from the MOWA Choctaw and larger Indian Country community.  Applicants must be a senior or graduate student at any four year+ accredited university and be an enrolled member or descendant of an enrolled member of the MOWA Band of Choctaw Indians.  The applicant must email helphaskell@hotmail.com the following by September 15th of each year: 

 

1. A picture of yourself

2. Proof of tribal enrollment

3. Essay Requirement: 

Please write a one to two page essay on the history of your "non-federally" recognized tribe at the Indian Boarding schools. Please utilize the helphaskell.org website and any other sources you may be aware of to complete your essay. 

4. A current university transcript

5. And the following information:

a. Applicant name and name(s) of parent(s), grandparent(s) or others who have raised you.

b. Address (home and campus):

f. Current school activities:

 

The recipient(s) will receive $500 and a certificate and a certificate. The recipient's names will also be on a permanent plaque displayed in the MOWA Band of Choctaw Indians Cultural Center & Museum.
